Over the years, we've found the Rubberlegs to be the most effective stonefly nymph pattern out there, often out-fishing much more detailed and lifelike flies. We use them on the Madison year round, focusing on larger sizes in the spring when the largest nymphs are getting ready to hatch, and they're absolutely deadly during runoff. The smaller sizes become more effective in the summer and fall after the big bugs have already emerged.
