It's no secret that midges are an essential part of any trout's diet, particularly on the Madison river, so we are always on the lookout for new midge patterns that will consistently fool our local trout. Aaron first tied this pattern with a heavy tungsten bead to be dropped below a dry fly on Madison floats, but it has turned out to be very successful fished deep on a single or double nymph rig as well. It has been quite successful for us on local rivers like the Madison, Gallatin and Yellowstone. It has also worked really well for the big fall-run browns and rainbows in the park.
