Bucky spent most of last season dialing in his spey casts, and so most of his fishing was done with swinging flies. One of his most productive patterns throughout the summer was this simple little soft hackle, which seems to imitate both Hydropsyche and Brachycentrus caddis pupa quite well. It was a rare summer evening that this fly didn’t produce at least a few grabs leading up to the nightly Madison caddis emergence, and it’s a great pattern for swinging on the Firehole in both spring and fall also.
