Geoff Unger

Geoff was born and raised in Missoula, MT. Unlike most fishermen he picked up a fly rod before a spinning rod. His guiding career began in 1994 at Hubbard’s Lodge on the Yellowstone River. He has also guided in Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania and Idaho. Geoff came to Blue Ribbon Flies in 1999. Since joining the gang he’s focused on guiding in Yellowstone National Park and Southwest Montana. After over two decades Geoff hasn’t lost any passion for fishing. “I enjoy working together with clients for the a common goal, to trick the fish. After 20 years of guiding fishing I just want to know what the fish ate. I’m lucky to have some of the best clients around that keep me coming back year after year.” Geoff enjoys all types of fly fishing. When the fall rolls around he prefers to chase migratory fish with a two handed rod. When off the river Geoff can be found tying flies, watching his kids play sports or coming up with schemes that allow him to do more fishing. In the off-season Geoff manages the Snow Sports School at the Yellowstone Club. Much of his time in the winter is spent watching his kids ski races. Geoff resides in Big Sky, MT with his wife Shea, son Caleb and daughter Chloe. Geoff has a serious interest in the performance of the products he uses and endorses. As a Simms Ambassador and a Winston Pro Staff member he helps these Montana companies improve their products.
