Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to make advance reservations for our guide trip?
There are a few times during the year that you can walk into the shop and book a guide trip for the next day. However, most of the time our guide availability is slim. From mid June through the end of August, we are booked solid and have been for weeks or even months. We recommend that you book your trip as soon as possible to assure your desired date.

Is there a deposit required for guide trip reservations?
Yes, a 50% deposit is required at the time you book your trip. We accept personal checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover or American Express to hold dates. Deposits are non-refundable unless notice of cancellation is received no less than thirty (30) days prior to your fishing dates. There will be no refunds on cancellations less than thirty (30) days and cancellation made less than seven (7) days prior to your trip will require full payment.

What if it rains or snows on the day my scheduled guide trip?
For better or worse, some of the best fishing occurs when the weather is nasty. That said, we want you to have a good time and will not force you to fish in weather that could be dangerously cold. On the other hand, if we have 10 other guide trips that day and they all go out we would have to take another look at the situation. If you don’t go the guide doesn’t get paid. We want to be fair to everyone.

Who will be my guide?
All of the guides at Blue Ribbon Flies are first class and unless you request a certain guide, your guide will be assigned a couple of days prior to your trip. We try to match clients with guides according to the experience they are seeking.

Will I have the same guide every day?
Not necessarily. Many of our guides are booked up to a year in advance and may not be available to fish with you for all of your desired dates. Many of our clients like to fish with several different guides during there stay, because they can learn different things from each of them. If you would like to fish with the same guide each day please let us know at the time of booking and we will try to accommodate you as best we can.

Where and when do we meet?
Unless otherwise arranged, we typically meet at Blue Ribbon Flies around 8:00am. On some occasions our guides like to get an earlier or later start depending on time of year or conditions. If possible it is wise to try and check in the night before. Our trips are full days and usually return to the shop around 6:00-6:30pm.

Can we take three people with one guide?
We will take three people with one guide (walk/wade only) but we do not recommend this. Over the years we have found that the experience and level of service provided greatly decreases on a three person trip. The price of this trip is also greater. $575.00

What is included in the price of the trip?
The price of the trip includes the guide fee, transportation to and from the shop, lunch, non-alcoholic beverages and vehicle shuttles. Fishing licenses and terminal tackle (leaders, tippet, flies, split shot, indicators, etc...) are not included.

Where will we fish?
This depends on a lot of factors. You may request a certain stream, area or particular section of a river that you wish to fish. However, this should be discussed with your guide the morning of your trip. Our guides are out everyday and know “what’s fishing best”. We are lucky to have many of the world’s best trout streams in our back yard and most of the time your guide will give you several options of rivers to fish. We advise you to follow the guide’s recommendations but don’t hesitate to let him know what you want out of the day.

What should I do to prepare for my trip?
If you have fly fishing experience, the best thing you can do to prepare for a guide trip is practice your casting. Don’t hesitate to call and ask for advice on fly patterns that you can tie before your trip. We will be happy to send you any flies, equipment, or tying materials needed.
