New Flies 2008

The heart and soul of Blue Ribbon Flies has always been flies.  We've spent more time designing, debating about, and experimenting with flies than anything else here in the shop.  There is always a new group of experimental flies in the works.  For years we've been lucky to be surrounded by an incredibly creative group of fly tiers who have come up with effective patterns like the Sparkle Dun, X Caddis, Iris Caddis, and the list goes on...

These are the flies that made it to the top of the class for 2008.  Fish them with confidence and know the selection passed numerous on and off stream tests.

Amber X Caddis $ 2.25
The White and Amber X Caddis are 2 important patterns those of us at the shop have carried in our boxes for the past few years. The #18 Amber X imitates the Helicopsyche species of caddis so important in late spring on areas of the Firehole and Madison.

Epeorus Soft Hackle Emerger $ 2.25
The Epeorus Soft Hackle Emerger solved another puzzle for us this summer. The fish we met seemed impossible to fool during this most important mayfly emergence on the Madison, Yellowstone and Gallatin Rivers.

GM Nymph $ 2.25
The General Manager or GM Nymph, (Gallatin-Madison), is a pattern our guides did not want us to let out of the bag, so to speak! We came up with this great nymph in mid-summer, when the fishing became tough due to low water and ultra-selective trout.

Jiminy Cricket $ 2.25
The Jiminy Cricket comes to us from our friend and talented fly designer Ron Landis of Connecticut. Ron showed the fly to Craig who fished it on Soda Butte and Slough Creek and the Lamar River from July through September with incredible success.

Mighty Midge Emerger $ 2.25
The Mighty Midge Emerger was shown to us by our friend and the founder of Patagonia Inc., Yvon Chouinard. He developed this important fly for the large and super-selective cutthroats on many sloughs and backwaters in Wyoming.

Rubber Legged Gotcha Bar-Eyed $ 2.99
Our Rubber Legged Gotcha is a deadly variation of the standard saltwater Gotcha available in Bar Eyed for deeper water and Bead Chain for shallow water. When we first tied this fly for veteran bonefishers like Steve Sharkey would come back demanding we p

September's Song $ 2.25
September is one of our favorite times of the year in Yellowstone, and this fly is one of our favorite and most productive flies. It is a beautiful pattern, fun and easy to tie.

White X Caddis $ 2.25
The #16 White X Caddis is an unorthodox tie of our standard X patterns but with an addition of hackle. This allows the fly to skitter and move like the naturals it imitates on the Firehole when Nectopsyche species caddis are emerging and egg-laying.
