The
one percent for the planet club was founded in started in
2001 by Yvon Chouinard, of Patagonia clothing company, and
Craig Mathews of Blue Ribbon Flies. This club was formed
to protect, preserve, and enhance wild resources. Members
pledge one percent of their gross sales each year to environmental
causes. In these times of budgetary shortfalls, we feel
that it is up to the businesses using everyone's natural
resources to financially support the protection of these
resources. Blue Ribbon Flies has pledged two percent of
our gross sales each year since 1997, to projects like Three
Dollar Bridge on the Madison River and The Yellowstone Park
Foundation. We were the first business to donate a percent
of our sales, and we hope other businesses will follow our
lead. By supporting businesses that give a percent of their
sales back to the environment, consumers can help to protect,
preserve, and enhance the resources of Yellowstone Country.
After all, wouldn't you want to buy your gear from a business
that gives back a percent or two of its gross sales back
to projects in OUR Park, and on OUR Madison River?
Protecting
Montana's Trout Streams
This
could be the best insurance you can buy to protect trout
habitat. Don't Let Montana's Fishing Heritage Slip Away
Today every major trout stream in the state is threatened
by the destructive forces of residential subdivision, de-watering,
and poor land use practices. Unless we act now, Montana's
fishing heritage may become only a memory.
We're
Protecting Crucial Watersheds
The
Montana Nature Conservancy has a proven record for protecting
critical fish and wildlife habitat - from the grizzly to
the grayling. The Montana Nature Conservancy has protected
over 276,000 acres of natural habitat, including over 100
miles of streambank along Montana's legendary rivers - the
Madison, Yellowstone, Gallatin, Missouri, Blackfoot and
Big Hole.
The
Way We Work is Simple
We
identify lands that are vital for the health of the watershed.
We work cooperatively with landowners, anglers, and others
to protect these lands through permanent easements or by
buying the land outright. Then we manage the land to keep
the watershed healthy.
Insurance
for the Future
Your
best insurance is to support the work of The Montana Nature
Conservancy. Through your tax-deductible donation you become
a member of the Friends of Montana, a national network of
people who love Montana and want to keep it special - for
our children and their children.

The
World's First National Park
Since Yellowstone was created 129 years ago it has served
as a universal symbol of wildness, mystery, and natural
beauty. As the world's first national park. Yellowstone's
treasures become more significant with each generation.
Not only does it have three of the world's top trout fishing
streams, it also supports the highest concentration of free-roaming
wildlife in the lower 48 states. Yellowstone - A Park at
Risk - It seems unimaginable that Yellowstone's unique resources
might be at risk, but they are.
Mounting
pressures, including increased visitor use and shrinking
federal budgets, make it more and more difficult to care
for Yellowstone's spectacular resources. In the Madison,
Gallatin, Firehole and Yellowstone Rivers, native fish,
like the westslope cutthroat, have been virtually eliminated
by introduced non-native species.
Unfortunately,
the Park Service does not have the money to address situations
like this in a timely manner. Soon it will be too late and
catching a native trout may be just a memory.
The
Yellowstone Park Foundation
We
are a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting,
and enhancing Yellowstone National Park. We receive no government
funding but rely solely on the generous support of private
citizens, foundations, and corporations to ensure that Yellowstone's
great gifts to the world never diminish.
The
Foundation's Goals
Among
the many projects we have funded is a westslope cutthroat
conservation project to restore this "species at risk"
to its native habitat within the Park. The Foundation urges
you to become a Friend of Yellowstone with your tax-deductible
donation. Please help to preserve and protect an international
angling treasure.

The Trust for Public Land in Montana
The Trust for Public Land is the only national nonprofit working exclusively to conserve land for people to enjoy and to improve the quality of life in our communities. TPL’s expertise is helping communities identify and protect the lands that are important to them and arranging innovative conservation transactions to achieve those goals.
With generous support from people like you, The Trust for Public Land has protected more than 170,000 acres of land in Montana for wildlife, sportsmen and the recreating public. This includes some 220 miles of trout-laden rivers and streams, which are now permanently accessible to the angling public.
